LABELS
By Sister Siebra Muhammad
Living in a world divided by labels
A word or phrase used to describe a person or group
Has become no more of an interest
Other than trying to find out what is the latest scoop
Living in a world divided by labels
Who do you support is the question asked
Some say, I'm a supporter of MLK
Who's fighting for reparations
For the sake of a mighty nation
As payment owed to the righteous,
for labor served centuries on plantations
We are not to settle for a parcel pay
when you are inheriting creation!
Living in a world divided by labels
Who do you follow is the question asked
Some say, I am a supporter of Farrakhan
The bright and morning star
A final reminder that is what you are
Who do you follow is the question asked
Some say, I am a supporter of Obama
You must want for your brother what you want for yourself
Your actions must be that of love and mercy
Giving, so that you and I may see
See a day where we have reversed history
Living in a world divided by labels
Who do you follow is the question asked
Some are blessed to say, I follow no one
I am with the one prophesied to come
And eat at your table
Living in a world divided by labels
Who do you follow is the question asked
Some say, I am a follower of The Most High
Who claims to love God who you can not see today
And hate your brother or sister you see every day
Sad, namely because of disagreements that is not going your way
Living in a world divided by labels
A word or phrase used to describe a person or group
Has become no more of an interest
Other than trying to find out what is the latest scoop
