The Essence Music Festival takes over the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and the Superdome this weekend but beauty and fashion festivities are spread all over downtown.
Here’s a look at a few of the events planned:
•Carol’s Daughter, the natural skin care company, will once again pop open a temporary shop in the French Quarter during Essence Fest. Open now through Sunday, at 531 Bienville St., the store will have a variety of celebrity appearances, giveaways and refreshments. Highlights include: Friday, wine and cheese with R&B singers Joe and Chrisette Michele; Saturday, appearances by Trey Songz and Jada Pinkett Smith; Sunday, appearance by New Orleans Hornet Chris Paul and complimentary cocktails.
•Beauty Mix: A lineup of makeup artists from around the country will offer makeovers and touch-ups by appointment and for walk-in guests Friday through Sunday at The Makeup Lab Artistry studio, 843 Carondelet St. Featured makeup artists include Ashley Merritt and Kisha Williams of New Orleans; Brandi Holmes from Houston; Shari Amanda from Baltimore; and Kellie Muse from Washington D.C. Makeup applications, false eyelashes, brow shaping, as well as customized services will be offered for a fee.
•Kandi Burruss from The Real Housewives of Atlanta will host a free VIP Lounge for Motions, a women’s hair care line, Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. each day at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino. Complimentary makeup applications, free hairstyling, music by DJ D-Nice and Motions-inspired cocktails and snacks will be served.
