This teacher knew EXACTLY what she was doing.
The students can use the slurs during class, but she didn't want them to say them outside the class??? WTF???

This teacher should be fired on the spot. Not only is she allowing the racial slurs to be said, shes teaching word to children that they don't even know and thats a shame, especially when other kids are uncomfortable. Thats what happened with my son. He didn't feel comfortable in a class that was being taught Huckleberry Finn and I went through hell with that teacher before I got my son removed because she allowed to words to be spoken in the class. You can't tell a child its ok to study it in class but don't use it outside of class because its offensive. That causes children to go right out and talk about what there being taught in that class. Its ridiculous!

That teacher might have intended to make students feel inferior. A word has no meaning until you give it definition. As a child, I can remember my grandmother(half Cherokee) using the word peckerwood whenever she was angry. I asked her for the definition and she said that it was not a word for children to use.
