CANADA--A Calgary anti-racism activist claims white supremacists forced their way into his home overnight and tried to kill him.
Jason Devine of Anti-Racism Action Calgary and a friend were viciously beaten early Monday by a group of men armed with hammers and bats while his wife and four sons, ages five to 12, were asleep.
Devine says it's all in retaliation for posting anti-racist pamphlets near the home of a known neo-Nazi.
Police are now looking for several suspects after five masked men armed with blunt weapons broke into the home in the 5400 block of 8 Avenue SE just after 1 a.m.
The two men were assaulted and needed medical attention. One had a broken arm that required surgery, and the second sustained injuries from weapons and hand strikes to his body, police said.
The five masked men then fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV.
Devine's wife Bonnie Devine, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in last month's municipal election, and his children were unharmed.
The Devines say this is not the first time they have been targeted and that the house has been vandalized and pelted with Molotov cocktails.
Police say there are no confirmed suspects at this point and they are still trying to determine a motive.
