It’s now a done deal, as 10-year-old Willow Smith will officially star in the remake of the popular musical “Annie.” Rapper Jay-Z, who famously sampled “Annie” on the track “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” in 1998, will co-produce the film, along with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
In 2009, Jay-Z, Will, and Jada teamed up to produce the Broadway play “Fela!,” a musical about Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The success of the Smith children continues, as Jaden starred in the financially successful “The Karate Kid” remake with Jackie Chan last year, and Willow has become a household name thanks to her catchy single “Whip My Hair.”
It’s not really known if the remake of “Annie” will actually be a genuine remake, or more of a reimaging of the original story, similar to what was done in 1978 with “The Wiz.”
