REFLECTIONS OF THE WORK AND IMPACT OF DR. FRANCES CRESS WELSING (527 hits)

“There are people who want to maintain the system of racism / White supremacy.
They don't want the victims of that system to have clarity as to what's happening to them.” –Dr. Frances Cress Welsing

The November 2008 election of President Barack Obama as the first Black U.S. President has been, in the minds of many Americans, a sign that Black people have finally arrived at the promise land of racial equality and opportunity. We're often asked, “why can't Black men just make a better choice,” while given examples of brothers who excelled despite the odds. This belief, that we have arrived, has fostered an atmosphere that challenges the validity and necessity of Black nationalist organizations and efforts to mobilize Black people.

These efforts are often met with extreme criticism from not only the Black middle and upper class, but also from those who face the realities of deprivation and neglect daily. We want the world to see that we are willing to be “responsible” for the condition of our people and we're willing to bear the entire load of this tragedy. For those who know and understand that Racism/White Supremacy is a system of global domination that affects all areas of people activity, we're often faced with the challenge of fighting against an enemy that most of our people believe, no longer exists.

The saying goes that the “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.” That is until, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing enters the room.

Brooklyn, New York was blessed with her presence on December 11, 2010 at Long Island University. Her lecture, titled “Freedom from Psychological Slavery, Awakening from the AmeriKKKan Dream,” was well attended by both young and old, from all walks of life. The energy was high and there was no question that our community needed to hear from our beloved mother, master teacher and scholar. The event was reminiscent of days in the past when the Black community came out in large numbers to hear from our African scholars. It was a throwback to the days of Pyramid Book Store on Georgia Avenue, in Washington, D.C., (where I purchased my first copy of “The ISIS Papers”). It reminded me of the Historically Black College and University sweatshirts and African medallions we sported in the '90s. It felt like home; where we all needed to be that day, and Dr. Welsing was there to remind us of all the things we'd been encouraged to forget.

Dr. Welsing, born March 18, 1935, wears her 71 years well and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Her lecture was, from beginning to end, irrefutable proof that Racism/White Supremacy, as a global system created to ensure White genetic survival, is the single most destructive force on the planet today. Her presentation showed exactly how, economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, s*x and war are all manipulated and controlled for the purpose of maintaining White global domination in all areas of our lives. She exposed the lies and revealed the symbolism present in all areas of entertainment and sports and explained exactly how and why the Black man is the greatest threat to White genetic survival.

“The system of white racism must take power from the Black man if there is going to be White genetic survival,” stated Dr. Welsing. “The attack,” she continued, “must center on the Black man, because he does have a weapon, it's called dominant genetic power.” When addressing the continuous murdering of Black men in this society she stated, that “if it's happening over and over again, it implies intentionality.”

Of course, I was the first person in line during the question and answer portion of the lecture. I got an opportunity to stand next to Dr. Welsing, to touch her hand, to look into her eyes and ask one of the many things I'd ask if I ever had the opportunity to speak with her at length. One after the other, our community stood in line, ready, willing and needing to pour our hearts out to our beloved mother and share our pain, experiences and fears with her. She comforted us, she encouraged us, she left us with much. She always does.

I love Dr. Welsing; the way a daughter loves a mother and I'm proud of her, in the way Black folks were proud back in the days when our dignity was all we had. “The Isis Papers,” really did change my life. It still remains, one of the most important literary offerings and solutions for the liberation of non-White people where ever we are found. Most importantly, it proves that we are NOT crazy when we say that something is still wrong. “All behavior has significance, we must understand the context and power controlling it,” stated Dr. Welsing. No truer words!
